Le Internet medley genius song/video produced by the Israeli rockers The GAG Quartet. It’s an incredibly tight and well produced video with some hilarious, and often quite subtle, meme references throughout. Le Internet Medley has been on youtube for just 9 days now and has already racked up over 5.5 million views.

As far as I can make out, the medley goes: Nyan Cat, Ievan Polkka (Leek Spin), Keyboard Cat, Trololo, Chacarron Macarron, Numa Numa, Rebecca Black’s Friday, Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up, Chocolate Rain and then back to Nyan Cat. There’s allegedly 40 memes in total but sadly still no Milhouse.

Directed by Philippe Grenade, ‘I Was A Bomb’ is the debut music video of the band Silent Rider, a downtempo, bass heavy group.

The black and white narrative, shot on the RED in New York’s Appalachia, follows a man and woman as they trek the landscape in search of some enigmatic form of nourishment. After what seems like a dreary and fruitless journey, they stumble upon what they’ve been tracking, culminating in a haunting sequence of events.

This video of Weezer’s recent cover of Radiohead’s 1997 classic ‘Paranoid Android’ is something I expect will attract a large number of comments from both sides of the Atlantic. When I first saw the video description I was hesitant to open Pandora’s box but during the first 20 seconds I was actually pleasantly surprised. However, Rivers Cuomo’s vocals just don’t fit this song at all.

Some could argue his voice is just different to that of Thom Yorke but you really have to think carefully before you attempt to cover one of the best songs from one of the greatest albums of all time. It’s definitely worth a listen to make up your own mind but a simplified review from me; musically very good, vocally wrong.

The Civilization EP will be the most significant release since Justice’s ‘Cross’ back in 2007. Scheduled for release on June 6th, it is currently unclear what other tracks the Civilization EP will contain but it is known it features a remix from Mr. Oizo. There’s also word of a currently untitled second album set for release in autumn. Exciting times.

If shattered monuments raining down on wildebeest in a post apocalyptic, gravity reversed setting is something you’re into, then you’ll love this immense work of CGI mastery.

Fixers

This five piece from Oxford seems to have the ‘psychadelic indie’ genre pinned. Having only got together for a one off show last year they decided to stick it out, stay together and see what else they can get up to. Pretty smart move as they are now set for big things, frequently attracting the interest of various music and media professionals.

If you like nice harmonies (who doesn’t!?) then this band will be right up your street, although everyone else will still enjoy their foot tappingly cheerful music.

Spark

Everyone will soon know about Spark. Already a favourite with acts such as Marina and the Diamonds and Diana Vickers she is bursting onto the music scene in a blaze of poppy electro. The awesome East London singer/songwriter will be releasing her debut album this year… As one YouTube commenter said: “2011 will belong to this girl”.

The Go! Team

Having been around since 2000 The Go! Team aren’t actually a new band, but I feel they deserve a little place on my list purely because if you haven’t already seen them (and even if you have) then 2011 is the year to do this – their energy on stage is infectious and you’ll definitely be glad you were a part of it. Check out the live video above for an example of the talent involved in this six piece from Brighton.

They draw a lot of influence from Sonic Youth, playground chants and old school hip hop and electro creating a surprisingly good combination.

Death Cab For Cutie

Death Cab For Cutie are another band that are in no way new, however their latest album Codes and Keys will be released this year so they can have a little spot on my list as ones to definitely go and see in 2011 – due to the simple fact that they’re awesome. From the bass line in ‘I Will Possess Your Heart’ to Ben Gibbardís voice in – well any song, they are definitely not to be missed.

Their last album Narrow Stairs was released in 2008 and reached number 1 on the Billboard 200. Lets see if they can match this success with their imminent next one…

Niki And The Dove

Swedish group Niki and the Dove will have you enchanted with their musical offerings and definitely leave you wanting more. Topping many of the rising stars for 2011 lists it’s worth jumping on this bandwagon before everyone else does too!

Fronted by Marin Dahlström who has a voice that is able to make electro-pop sound emotional and enchanting, check out singles ‘DJ, Ease My Mind’ and ‘Under the Bridges’, then get yourself a Niki And The Dove gig ticket!

Music video to ‘Come Home’ from Children and Corpse Playing in the Street’s debut album ‘Honey I’m Home!’. Directed and animated by David Mahler.

‘Go’ is now set to be released on the 5th of April 2010. The North American tour dates have been posted here and the first show is to be in Vancouver; a day after the album is released worldwide.

No dates in other continents have yet been announced but it is still being called a world tour so I expect they will be in the near future.
