Legs XI was a demo session recorded in the early days of The Libertines. It was never officially released but can be easily downloaded on the internet for free. The session was 8 tracks long and had a distinctive swing feel to it with Doherty feigning a Sinatra-esque vocal style. The session also features the former Libertines cellist Vicky Chapman. This session could have been released as an album or EP in its own right and features some of my favourite Libertines tracks
“If you still love me, by morning, oh you’ll find me waiting in the garden by the cherry-blossom tree. Bring tin cups of wine and cigarettes, come to me in pirouettes oh my darling, save all your love for me.”
The Legs XI session as well as all other Libertines and Babyshambles sessions can be downloaded from this site for free and legally, enjoy.
Another track well worth listening to is ‘Your My Waterloo’ it’s very pretty.
Grace/Wastelands was released on 16/03/09 in the U.K. Peter Doherty won Best Solo Artist at the 2009 Shockwaves NME awards before the album was released. The album features a lot of songs that have been knocking about over the years in demos and sessions such as ‘HQ Sessions Second Wave’ and ‘Acousticalullaby Sessions.’ Grace/Wastelands includes a number of guest appearances such as Dot Allison singing in ‘Sheepskin Tearaway’, string sections and Graham Coxon’s production, particularly in ‘Last of the English Roses.’ The album still sounds distinctly Pete with a romantic, old fashioned sound like yellowing paper. The complete track listing of
Grace/Wastelands is as follows:
‘Last Of The English Roses’
‘A Little Death Around The Eyes’
‘I Am The Rain’
‘Sweet By And By’
‘Palace Of Bone’
‘Broken Love Song’
‘New Love Grows On Trees’
‘Lady, Don’t Fall Backwards’
Indie Music Finds was started in April 2009 as a place for people to find something new. I try and keep it quite diverse so rummage around a bit and I’m sure you’ll find something you like to take away with you.
