SchnAAk are one of the most interesting acts I’ve come across for a while. The duo from Berlin, Josen Döpping and Mathias Jähnig, create an extraordinary infusion of math rock, jazz and analogue electro that is laid out in a kind of ordered chaos. Their music is largely instrumental and has evolved dramatically since their previous releases: ‘women on ships are bad luck’ a 5 track EP recorded live back in 2009 and their 2011 full length album ‘Wake up Colossus’.

There’s a stronger emphasis on electronic music in the Cool Drink Town EP through the way SchnAAk replicate electronic through analogue instruments in a similar style to Radiohead. Word on the street is that SchnAAk’s next EP, scheduled for release later in 2012, will explore this area further

You can buy the Cool Drink Town EP through bandcamp for just €4/$5 along with their earlier releases women on ships are bad luck and Wake up Colossus for €4 and €7 respectively. There’s also a video for the first track on this EP ‘stampfus’ on its way that was filmed while the duo were in Namibia.

Silent Rider, a downtempo producer from Brooklyn has recently released two Radiohead remixes. Both the tracks, Nude and Reckoner are taken from Radiohead’s 2007 album ‘In Rainbows’. Silent Rider has been featured on Indie Music Finds previously with the video to his track I Was a Bomb last year.

The Radiohead Remixes are being given away as free downloads through Silent Rider’s Soundcloud (see above) and through Silent Rider’s own website here.

Sigur Rós – Valtari (Track Listing – Release Date – Ekki Múkk)

Sigur Rós have recently announced details about their sixth studio album Valtari. You can listen to the first track to be released from Valtari, Ekki Múkk in the embedded Vimeo video below. Ekki Múkk loosely translates into english as ‘Not Seagull’.

“i really can’t remember why we started this record, i no longer know what we were trying to do back then. i do know session after session went pear-shaped, we lost focus and almost gave up…did give up for a while. but then something happened and form started to emerge, and now i can honestly say that it’s the only sigur rós record i have listened to for pleasure in my own house after we’ve finished it.” – georg

This could explain why Valtari is somewhat late. Ever since Sigur Rós’ 1999 album Ágætis Byrjun, there has been a full studio album released every 3 years, the most recent studio album being in 2008. Valtari was first hinted at by Sigur Rós during an interview following the premier of Inni in November 2011. Valtari was originally expected to be released in the second half of 2012 but the band have come in ahead of schedule with a release date of the 29th of May 2012 in the USA and on the 28th of May for the rest of the world.

The track listing for the new Sigur Rós album is as follows:

1. Ég Anda

2. Ekki Múkk

3. Varúð

4. Rembihnútur

5. Dauðalogn

6. Varðeldur

7. Valtari

8. Fjögúr Píanó

cloudeater – Sun and Sidearm

cloudeater are a pretty extraordinary band out of Atlanta, Georgia and with the release of their debut full length album ‘Sun and Sidearm’ in September, the band have put together this video for ‘Hardly Wait’, the 3rd song on the album.

Their sound often feels like a hybrid between the panicky, hectic rhythms of some of Thom Yorke’s solo stuff and the brooding atmosphere of Massive Attack. cloudeater’s music also features some intense stormy buildups, just have a look at some of the wave shapes of the tracks below and see the kind of dynamics these guys put into their music.

Directed by Philippe Grenade, ‘I Was A Bomb’ is the debut music video of the band Silent Rider, a downtempo, bass heavy group.

The black and white narrative, shot on the RED in New York’s Appalachia, follows a man and woman as they trek the landscape in search of some enigmatic form of nourishment. After what seems like a dreary and fruitless journey, they stumble upon what they’ve been tracking, culminating in a haunting sequence of events.
